Impact
Making a difference
At Arun Counselling Centre, impact is not just about numbers. It is about what changes when people are given the time, safety and professional support to explore their difficulties and move forward.
Alongside personal stories of growth and change, we track access, activity and clinical outcomes to understand how our service supports better mental health, emotional resilience and long-term change.
This helps us remain accountable, improve our practice and demonstrate the value of accessible counselling in our community.
Meeting Service Demand
Demand for counselling continues to grow, reflecting rising mental health need and trust in our service.
From 2024 to 2025 referrals to our service increased over 50% and 90 new clients started counselling, representing a 24% increase in people accessing our services.
With six new assessors trained, we have reducing waiting times and improved service access, ensuring people are matched appropriately with counsellors.
The Human Impact
Behind every number is a person:
“My family and friends noticed a big difference. I became more assertive and started putting myself first. I’ve learned techniques to stay calm and navigate life more easily and I’ve even been able to help my family cope better too.”
Suzanne, Client
“Seriously Jess, you are so good at what you do, so empathetic and genuine. Also, on another note, I wanted to say thank you for today’s session. It was so helpful and spot on to what I was thinking and feeling. Kind of spooky, but in a cool way.”
Naomi, Client
Social Value
Social Impact
Independent research by the Centre for Mental Health shows that every £1 invested in mental health support generates between £4 and £6 in wider social and economic value, with ACC in 2025 estimated to have generated up to £540,000 of social value.
NHS Savings
Evidence from NHS talking therapy programmes shows that psychological support can reduce demand on health services, including GP appointments, medication use and crisis services, with ACC generating savings of up to £71,500.
Community Impact
Improvements in one person’s mental health often have a positive effect on those around them, including family members, friends and colleagues. In 2025 it is estimated ACC positively impacted over 700 people across the community.
