Welcome to Arun Community of Practice (Friends of Arun)

Being a counsellor can sometimes feel isolating – especially when you’re balancing client work, supervision, and self-care.

Friends of Arun offers an affordable way to keep developing your skills and develop your practice, while supporting a not-for-profit counselling service that helps others.

Save more than your membership fee by attending just two sessions.

Your membership includes:

  • Discounted access to CPD and training throughout the year
  • Advanced notice of new workshops
  • Connection with other professionals in a supportive network
  • Social events
  • Recognition as a member of Arun CPD Network
  • Monthly emails covering news and research

Trainee Counsellor Placements

We welcome applications from trainees who are in the second year of their diploma level training courses using a range of modalities including humanistic, psychodynamic, transactional analysis and integrative.

We require our trainees to be actively engaged in their own therapy and see this as a key component of any training.

We recruit throughout the year whenever a vacancy occurs and hope trainees commit to the service for two years, hopefully longer!

We require our trainee counsellors to become members of a professional body such as BACP, UKCP or NCS and that they attend at last two of our workshops each year as part of their ongoing professional development.

What is the cost?

Students pay £25 per month for their supervision.

As a charity, unfortunately we are unable to pay travel expenses for counselling students, however we can help towards expenses for counsellors once they have completed all their training.

Why train with ACC?

We encourage mixed modality supervision groups, welcoming the exchange of ideas and practice.

We have supervisors with humanistic, psychodynamic and integrative backgrounds. Our philosophy is that we can all learn from each other.

We provide two hours of group supervision (four counsellors per group) each fortnight across seven groups.

How can I apply?

Please apply by email with a completed application form and an up-to-date CV to: director@aruncounselling.com

Qualified Counsellors

All of our counsellors are volunteers and we welcome enquiries from qualified counsellors.

We provide two hours of free group supervision (four counsellors per group) each fortnight and will also pay reasonable travelling expenses.

We would also expect that all our qualified counsellors have previous related experience plus have undergone their own weekly therapy, and to become members of a professional body such as BACP, UKCP or NCS.

We hope they would attend at last two of our workshops each year as part of their ongoing professional development.

How can I apply?

If you wish to apply to work as an honorary counsellor at ACC, simply complete this application form and email it, together with an up-to-date CV, to our email address: director@aruncounselling.com.

Empowering the community

Your learning supports affordable counselling in the community.

As a registered charity, we don’t receive government or local authority funding so every placement, volunteer and membership helps us continue offering affordable counselling to local people.

When you join ACC, you’re investing in your growth and supporting the wellbeing of your community.
